The degree can be obtained by means of one of the following ways:
A dissertation on an approved topic;
A treatise on an approved topic with a credit value of 84 to 102 and approved modules with a total credit value of at least 36 from the topics listed in the Honours CAL curriculum; or
A treatise on an approved topic with a credit value of 60 and approved modules with a total credit value of at least 60 chosen from the topics listed in the Honours CAL curriculum.

The mark(s) of the external examiner(s) count at least 50% towards the final mark. If there is more than one external examiner, the average of the marks allocated by them constitutes the external mark. The same applies to the internal examiner(s). Where all the examiners pass the candidate, but there is a significant discrepancy between the marks allocated by the external and internal examiners, the Faculty Research, Technology and Innovation Committee has the discretion to attach a greater weight to the mark(s) of the external examiner(s).
AWARDING OF THE DEGREE CUM LAUDE
A Master’s candidate obtains the degree cum laude if he/she –
In the case of a coursework degree:
Passes all the modules at the first attempt;
obtains a weighted average mark of at least 75% for all the modules; and
obtains a final mark of at least 75% for the treatise.
In the case of a research degree, obtains a final mark of at least 75%

After satisfactory completion of the Honours course, a candidate may complete his/her Master’s degree by following a course which consists of the following:
A dissertation, completed according to the General Rules for Masters Degree as published in the Prospectus of the NMMU. Seminars, which form an integral part of the MSc programme. It may be required of the student to register concurrently for one of the following modules for non- degree purposes:
F405: Semiconductor physics
F406: Electron Diffraction and Image-Contrast Theory
F407: Module on topics in physics prescribed by the Department or taken in conjunction with other departments.
Please Note: A candidate may be required to present him/herself for an oral examination of the contents of his/her dissertation.

At postgraduate level, our objective involves maintaining a high level of scientific excellence in botanical research with specific emphasis on the role of plants in the structure and functioning of terrestrial and marine (including estuarine) communities and ecosystems.
The curriculum consists of a dissertation in a chosen field of study that has been approved by the Department.
Candidates also have to present at least one seminar on an approved topic, as well one article for publication in a recognised journal.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
A relevant Honours degree, or a Postgraduate Diploma in Tourism and/or Hospitality Management or its equivalent at NQF level 8 with an aggregate pass of 60%.
RE-ADMISSION
In the event of the dissertation being rejected outright by the examiners, there will be no further opportunity to re-submit an improved version of that or any other research dissertation (see Rule G4.8.5).

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Unless Senate decides otherwise, candidates shall be admitted to the studies for the degree of Master of Commerce: Business Management only if they have an Honours degree in Business Management. All candidates shall nevertheless be subject to selection.
Note: Prospective candidates for the module work programme must apply in good time and present themselves for an interview by the end of September.
GENERAL
Except as otherwise provided below, the degree of Master of Commerce: Business Management shall be awarded in accordance with the General Rules for Masters’ Degrees as published in the General Prospectus and the Postgraduate Research Policy.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
Unless Senate decides otherwise, candidates shall be in possession of one the following minimum qualifications in order to qualify for admission:
a Bachelor of Science Honours qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management;
a Master of Architecture (Professional) qualification;
a four-year Bachelor s qualification in a building discipline;
a Bachelor of Technology qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or Architecture obtained from a technikon or technical university, together with a minimum of five years of relevant working experience;
a professional diploma in Quantity Surveying (RQS or ARICS), Construction Management or Architecture, together with a minimum of seven years relevant working experience.
All students shall be subject to a selection process as laid down by the department and approved by the Faculty Management Committee if completing an entrance essay.

The programme has been designed to benefit civil servants, middle and top-level management, community leaders, development specialists, foreign service personnel, social practitioners, teachers and school administrators, police officers and all those who manage conflict as part of their daily routine. The programme draws on the vast experience of a range of top South African and international experts in the field.
The programme’s depth is its core modules in approaches to the study of conflict, conflict processes, and conflict resolution and management techniques. Variety and specialization are built in through interdisciplinary elective modules in areas such as development and conflict, world conflict, conflict and regional integration and conflict in the workplace.
These advanced studies combine distance education, in short, intensive contact lecture blocks, opening up the programme to interested candidates irrespective of their geographical location.
Once per semester, in March and August, students meet at the NMMU for two weeks of intensive orientation and tuition in the form of lectures and workshops. Course notes and listings of required readings guide students through the on-campus period and the three months of self-study that follow.

Candidates who have passed the examinations on the grounds that they will be awarded the relevant degree by the University or on the grounds that the required status may later be granted to them, or who have in any other manner (e.g. RPL) attained a level of competence, which in Senate’s opinion is adequate for the purpose of postgraduate studies or research at the required level, may be accepted as candidates for the relevant degree.
